Some STANDARD H products take a bit longer than others to come to fruition, and the Mechanics Shirt is one of those. However, this item has much more of a back story than some may realize. Is it automotive inspired? Of course, but its genesis also stems from time spent last Summer (2022) at Oris Day at the Padres' Petco Park and a dinner that followed. At the table was a group of old friends, and some new friends when (new friend) Gary asked, "Wesley, what do you do again...you sell transmissions??" The entire table began laughing, and the concept of the Mechanics Shirt began.

At first, the idea was to make a t-shirt, but as a Mechanics Shirt had long been requested by a few members of the STANDARD H community, it only made sense to create the short sleeved button up with an 8" patch signifying this now inside joke. It was a ton of fun to create while going through different fabrics to make the shirts, as well as different types of patches. The final result is the following:

  • 100% Cotton Twill Fabric in Navy
  • 8" Woven Patch with Merrowed edge
  • Cut and sewn right here in Southern California resulting in an incredibly small carbon footprint.
  • Gusseted Sides/Underarm consistent with all other styles in the STANDARD H range. This detail borrowed from an ice climbing jacket offers better range of motion while preventing your shirt's lift when raising your arms be it while in the driving position or stowing your luggage in the overhead compartment.
  • Shoulder/Side Seams: the components of these shirts are meant to visually interact with one another the same way the panels on luxury cars do - in close proximity while not seeing how they're attached.
  • Branding: The small grey tab on the lower left was created as a tribute to the lightweight door handles found in high-end Porsches - the king of understated performance.
